Cleaning your jewellery can feel like a chore, we know. And with the many festivals and occasions around, we understand that you want to keep all your bling perfectly sparkling. Like always, we’re here to make life simpler for you!
Here are 5 DIY tips and tricks you can trust when it comes to cleaning your precious pieces in a jiffy!
1. Cleaning Plain Gold and Silver
If your plain gold or silver jewellery has lost its shine and looks rather drab, all you have to do is this simple trick to have it shining again. Take a bowl of warm water and add some baking soda to the water, dampen a cloth with the mixture and rub the silver jewellery in question gently. You can also use vinegar solution for the silver baubles. For plain gold jewellery let it soak in the solution and use a brush to clean. For plain gold jewellery, you can bring back the gloss also by soaking them in beer.
2. Keep Your Diamonds Sparkling
Nothing is more disappointing than when your favourite diamond ring stops sparkling! Keep your diamond jewellery glinting like they are new with this simple tip. Pour some club soda into a glass and let your precious stones soak for a few minutes or overnight depending on the amount of built up dirt.
3. Keep Them Crystals Happy
Soaking any crystal based precious stone in a small solution of vodka will help clean it up like nothing else! Vodka is known to help clean glassware, now you can take the tip ahead with your crystal jewellery.
4. Caring for Pearls
While the above tips work well for precious stones such as diamonds, emeralds and crystals, it is a definite no for pearls and any other opaque gemstones such as opals or corals. For such precious jewellery, simply make a solution of mild detergent and warm water and wash them in the solution gently without scrubbing/brushing. Wipe with a soft cloth after washing them and you are done.
5. Store Them Right
Maintain your lovely jewellery by storing them properly. For silver, ensure packing them in airtight containers to prevent moisture playing havoc. For plain gold that can be pretty malleable, ensure you store them in soft pouches and place nothing heavy on them. Gemstones deserve individual boxes for individual pieces of jewellery. Keep them in a dry clean place and don’t mix up jewellery in a dump to avoid damaging them.
